*Brett Yormark is Proving to be Worth his Weight in Gold When it Comes to Saving the Big 12 Conference*
Big 12 Conference Commissioner Brett Yormark did the league a solid when he brokered the deal that will send Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC a year early on Thursday.
Not only did Yormark find a way for OU and Texas to be happy in the way their exit fees would be collected for leaving after the 2023 season, but it made sure the Legacy 8 schools of the conference were made whole after having to pony up $16 million each to bring in the new members of the league a year earlier than planned, starting in the 2023 football season.
Yormark also freed himself up to be able to focus on the long-term health of the Big 12 moving forward, namely pursuing expansion options that would keep the Big 12 alive and relevant, while likely spelling the certain end of the once-mighty PAC-12 conference. This would not have happened under previous conference leadership in the Big 12, so the Legacy 8 should be more than grateful for Yormark leading the way forward in this time of upheaval across the landscape of college football.
