Michael Hawkins Jr. could become the best quarterback from the 2026 transfer portal—and some Oklahoma football fans believe Jason Watkins has completely lost his mind.
In this HOF College Football monologue, Jason responds to the claim that Hawkins is “not a good QB” and explains what those evaluations leave out: Hawkins was an 18-year-old true freshman playing behind a depleted Oklahoma offensive line, without most of OU’s established receivers and inside an offense so dysfunctional that coordinator Seth Littrell was fired during the season.
Yes, Hawkins struggled against Texas and South Carolina. But he also led two touchdown drives against Tennessee, won at Auburn in his first career start, produced 308 total yards against Navy and accounted for four touchdowns without a turnover in Oklahoma’s 44–0 win over Kent State.
Now Hawkins enters a Rich Rodriguez offense at West Virginia that appears ideally suited to his athletic ability. Jason isn’t hiding from the prediction—and he’s keeping the receipts.
