*Curtis Lofton, Courtney Morgan Making a Mark on Recruiting with their Work for Sooner and Tide Coaches*
Last month, the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents approved a new title for football staff member Curtis Lofton: general manager.
This newly created position is part of a growing trend across the country, though the responsibilities of general managers can vary by school. Initially, Lofton's role was unclear, but on Thursday, Oklahoma made it official, announcing Lofton’s promotion and providing details about the football program's new recruiting operations model.

The university partnered with Huron Consulting Group to analyze NFL operations and adapt those practices to the evolving college football landscape.
In his new role, Lofton and his team will advise head coach Brent Venables on recruiting high school prospects and transfer portal players. The university described the move as “designed to position OU football at the forefront of talent analysis, acquisition, and retention.”
Joining Lofton are former Kansas State recruiting analyst Chuck Lillie as assistant general manager and Jolie Ale as the new director of recruiting strategy.
“Talent management in college football is quite different from the NFL,” Lofton explained in a statement. “In our environment, we recruit athletes rather than draft them, giving our players more choices than ever before.
“Despite these differences, certain elements of the professional model can enhance our recruitment strategies, especially as we navigate the complexities of roster management and other evolving factors. Our goal is to remain agile, and this new structure is designed to achieve just that.”
OU has also enlisted the expertise of former Philadelphia Eagles vice president Jake Rosenberg, who will provide guidance as the school transitions to its new recruiting structure.
“We knew this shift would require significant effort to get off the ground, which is why we brought in an expert with Super Bowl-winning NFL experience,” Castiglione said. “Jake understands what it takes to build a championship team, and his reputation for developing cohesive programs and teams will be invaluable as we adapt our approach to meet the demands of the current moment.”
Rosenberg will assist in refining the football program’s recruiting model and implementing it across the university’s other sports programs.
“This partnership offers an exciting opportunity to lead the way in collegiate sports,” Rosenberg said in a statement. “I am thrilled to join this team and help shape the future, starting now.”
