Oklahoma’s About Face Over Last Two Games Has Fans Hitting the Panic Button
What started off looking like a season for the record books for Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners has turned into a nightmare over the past two weeks, nine days to be exact.

TCU took over where Kansas State left off a week earlier in its game against OU Saturday in Fort Worth, racking up 41 first-half points and 668 total yards in a 55-24 demolition of Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma boo birds are out in full force following the Sooners’ second-straight loss after opening the season 3-0, some already calling for Coach Brent Venables to be fired just five games into his first season on the OU sideline.
Venables' specialty, coaching ELITE defensive football, was honed as the defensive coordinator for the Sooners during the early 2000s, and he became legendary for the two national titles the Tigers won with him serving as Dabo Swinney's defensive coordinator and leading a unit that was among the most dominant in the modern era.
Granted, it's still VERY EARLY in Venables' second stint in Norman, this time as head coach of the Sooners. Still, what we're seeing from his defense is far from "Elite," at least over the last two weeks.
The Sooners have given up almost 1,200 yards and 96 points in back-to-back losses to Kansas State and TCU, the latter of which was never a contest after the first few minutes of the game.
Oklahoma now looks toward Saturday's Red River Shootout with rival Texas with the probability that it will have to play the game without the services of Dillon Gabriel, OU’s starting quarterback that left Saturday's game with a concussion after taking a dirty hit to the head as he was sliding from a TCU linebacker.
It feels like OU's only chance to win Saturday would be similar to the way Venables' predecessor did it, by outscoring the opposition rather than trying to control the outcome with your defense. Gabriel, though, is the only Sooner Quarterback with any real experience, so it may be a tough ask of Jeff Lebby's offensive unit if the UCF transfer doesn't suit up Saturday.
That brings us back to Venables' Bread and Butter, and if the last two weeks are any indication, there's no butter to be found.
