Oklahoma football landed four players in On3’s Top 100 college football players list for 2026, but is that enough respect for Brent Venables’ Sooners?
Tonight on Sooner Intel, Jason Watkins, Kchris Griffin of the Horns Down Podcast and Chris Mason of Sooners 360 break down OU’s four selections: David Stone at No. 20, Kip Lewis at No. 47, Taylor Wein at No. 58 and Isaiah Sategna at No. 62. On3’s updated “100 days to kickoff” list also notes that Oklahoma has the fourth-most impact players in its top 300, which raises the real question: Is OU being underrated nationally or is the Top 100 just waiting for more Sooners to break out?
The fellas debate how many Sooners could be on this list by the end of the season, including names like John Mateer, Peyton Bowen, Eli Bowen, Jayden Jackson, Tate Sandell and other potential breakout stars.
Plus, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian lit up the offseason when he suggested Texas could have success against Texas Tech’s schedule with second- and third-string players. Texas Tech’s Cody Campbell fired back publicly, telling Texas to “schedule us then,” adding more fuel to one of the hottest in-state college football debates of the offseason.
Should Texas take the challenge? Or does Sark have nothing to gain by giving Texas Tech the fight it wants?

As of May 2026, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables is a member of the American Football Coaches Association Board of Trustees, a group pushing major changes to the College Football Playoff structure.
Among the recommendations being supported by Venables and other AFCA board members:
Expanding the College Football Playoff from 12 teams to 24 teams
Eliminating conference championship games
Starting the playoff earlier
Ending the season by the second Monday in January
Reducing the regular season from two bye weeks to one
Preserving the Army-Navy game’s exclusive national time slot
The question is simple: does it matter what a committee of coaches thinks when those coaches stand to benefit from playoff expansion?
