*Venables Proved That You Can Recruit "Next Level" Talent to Oklahoma, While Riley's Struggle to Land Talent Proves to Exist in Southern California, Too*
Lincoln Riley and his media lap dog, Colin Cowherd, like to claim that Riley left Oklahoma for USC because you couldn't recruit the kind of players that will take you to the "Next Level," or in other words, the kind of defensive talent that will win the College Football Playoff, where Riley was beaten three times in as many trips during his tenure in Norman...
It only took one year for Brent Venables to prove that theory to be a load of reindeer pellets, as the first-year head coach of the Sooners signed a Top 5 recruiting class that included a pair of 5-Star defensive players, along with numerous other Blue Chip defensive players -- not to mention a 5-Star quarterback in Jackson Arnold -- to the place Riley and Cowherd have claimed all year was an impossible place to convince top talent to play their college football -- Norman, Oklahoma.
Meanwhile, Riley himself, is gonna need another excuse for why he still can't get this recruiting thing right, as his 11-2 record in his first season in sunny California didn't seem to effect his program on the recruiting trail... He failed to make the Top 10 in recruiting for the second-straight cycle this week, landing at 15th on the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, 10 spots behind his successor at Oklahoma, Venables.
