The NCAA is threatening to strip Indiana of its national championship after allowing star defensive player Louis Moore to compete during the Hoosiers’ title run under a court-issued injunction—setting up a massive clash over the organization’s controversial “Rule of Restitution.” Even though a judge allowed Moore to play, the NCAA says it could retroactively punish Indiana if it ultimately wins the case.
It’s the same situation unfolding at Ole Miss, where quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was granted a sixth season after the Mississippi Supreme Court denied the NCAA’s appeal—yet the governing body is signaling it could still impose penalties later.
Now, another major case looms. Oklahoma linebacker Owen Heineke is heading to an April 16 injunction hearing, where his legal team will argue the NCAA wrongly denied him a fifth year of eligibility over just 15 minutes of lacrosse action at Ohio State in 2022.
