*With All Signs Pointing to a Majority Streaming Model, Expect PAC-12 Defection Sooner or Later*
HOF College Football Podcast Host Jason Watkins discusses future of the Pac-12 Conference amid the steady flow of reporting from media insiders about what a new conference media rights deal will most likely resemble, and how those projections would likely affect both the Pac-12 and Big 12 Conferences.
Most notably, how would a media rights deal featuring a majority of Tier 1 content being delivered via streaming -- which appears the most likely scenario -- affect the future of George Kliavkoff's Pac-12?
As the conference negotiates for the best possible deal for its continued survival, hoping to convince Oregon and Washington to embrace a majority-streaming future, Kliavkoff and Pac-12 executives are being forced to find a way to clean up a media mess started by his predecessor Larry Scott, and furthered by his own belief that the league -- without USC and UCLA and its largest market -- demanded a larger payout for media rights than the Big 12's $31.66 million base deal Brett Yormark secured with ESPN and FOX Sports just 3 months after taking the position.
The numbers are reportedly nowhere close to the Big 12's, and it seems that only Kliavkoff and a group of pro-Pac-12 media members believe that the conference can hold together, along with fans and some administrators at the University of Utah.
