*Venables Says OU Players Should be More "Pissed Off" Than Hurt About Failing to Make Needed Plays in Loss to Big 12-Worst Mountaineers*
Undisciplined play continued to plague the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, and it cost them dearly yet again.
Garrett Greene came on in relief of JT Daniels and stole the show for West Virginia, throwing for a touchdown, running for two more, then took up more than 6 minutes in driving the length of the field, converting a fourth-down pass for 5 yards and later a 7-yard run on third down that set up Casey Legg's 25-yard game-winning field goal as time expired.
Fourth-ranked TCU and first-year head coach Sonny Dykes played a dominant brand of football overall in Austin Saturday, taking down Number 18 Texas 17-10 in a game that wasn't really that close, clinching a spot in the Big 12 Championship game on Dec. 3 and keeping hopes alive for a berth in the College Football Playoff.
For the Sooners, it was untimely errors that cost them yet again, despite 211 rushing yards and two touchdowns for OU running back Eric Gray, who went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season and had his fourth-straight game of 100 yards or more on the ground.
There were false-start, offsides, and holding penalties called against the Sooners at the most inopportune times, as well as dropped passes and touchdown taken off the board due to defensive pass interference when Brayden Willis was over the line of scrimmage on when catching a screen pass from Dillon Gabriel early in the third quarter. OU also converted just 1-13 third and 4th down conversions, while allowing the Mountaineers to convert on 11 of their 24 attempts on crucial downs.
Venables said he and his staff have to do a better job of getting the players ready for the games, but that the players themselves are the only ones who can control the errors that they make.

So, no, most people wouldn't argue with your assessment if you called any comparison between Riley and Venables a no-contest. Jason Watkins Host of the *HOF College Football Podcast*, while stopping short of choosing Venables today, will make an argument for the former Clemson and OU defensive coordinator becoming at least Riley's equal in the near future, however, and it's not as tough an argument to make as you might believe.
