*A Rebuttal to Casual Observers Claiming Lincoln Riley is Superior to Brent Venables on Basis of the Current State of their Respective Programs*
It's easy to compare the records of the football teams at *USC* and *Oklahoma* this season and come to what seems like a "no-brainer" conclusion regarding the question of which school ended up with the better coach following *Lincoln Riley's* departure from OU last season.
Throw in the fact that Trojans quarterback *Caleb Williams* is starting to look like a clear favorite to win the _Heisman Trophy_ as College Football's best player under Riley's tutelage, and there won't be many people that would argue that you came to an immediate and "obvious" conclusion that USC's shiny new leading man is far and away superior to new *Sooners coach Brent Venables*, in his first head coaching job and currently struggling through growing pains with the Sooners having lost four of their last six games.

After all, Riley has taken three Oklahoma teams to the College Football Playoff and is responsible for back-to-back Heisman-winning NFL Number 1 Draft Picks in his 5 full seasons as a head coach in college football. He hasn't won a playoff game as of yet, but if his Trojans win out and capture a PAC-12 conference championship, he would likely get another shot at the title he couldn't quite wrangle in Norman with the Sooners.

So, no, most people wouldn't argue with your assessment if you called any comparison between Riley and Venables a no-contest. *Jason Watkins* Host of the *HOF College Football Podcast*, while stopping short of choosing Venables today, will make an argument for the former Clemson and OU defensive coordinator becoming at least Riley's equal in the near future, however, and it's not as tough an argument to make as you might believe.
