Joining Forces may be the only chance for the Pac 12 and Big 12 Conferences to survive the latest round of College Football's Conference Realignment Power Grab by the Big Ten and SEC Super Leagues.
Let's Face it, gobbling whatever four or six schools are willing to either leave the Big 12 or Pac 12 for the other after last Thursday's announcement that USC and UCLA were leaving the Pac 12 for the B1G Ten Conference in two years is akin to trying to plug the leak in a dam with your fingers and toes.
The days of the College Football "Super League" are upon us, and the only way to survive the carnage is to create a Mega-Conference of your own... And though both sides quite clearly loathe the thought of joining forces with the other, the Pac 12 and Big 12 must stop wasting time negotiating with a handful of schools, and join together the armies each has left.
If they don't, and one of the two beleaguered conferences simply manages to finish off the other by poaching four to six schools, the winning side will not have won anything but a slow -- but sure -- extinction of its own. They likely exist another decade at most.

The Big 12 and Pac 12 must merge whatever programs are still in their stable once the Big Ten has finished what is surely just the beginning of its power move -- which it shrewdly executed in response to the hated SEC's power move of its own just a year ago in announcing it had lured away Oklahoma and Texas from the Big 12 Conference to strengthen its grip on the throat of the cash cow that is Major College Football.
The handshake deal that followed between the B1G, the ACC, and PAC 12 to not poach programs from one another was simply a maneuver for time to execute a plan for the Big Ten. There was never any intention to stand pat and watch the SEC continue to distance itself from the proud programs within its own ranks.
And whatever anyone tells you now, neither the Big Ten nor SEC will stop its conquests until the two have engulfed every major program in the country. The only chance at survival is to join forces, though even doing so now may not be enough. The odds will still be in favor of the two-headed monster, but at least you're not resorting to plugging holes with your fingers.
