Only West Virginia Leaves Week 1 Game With a Loss, But Big 12 Squads Texas and Baylor Not Likely to Have Things as Easy Saturday
The Big 12 Conference largely showed its collective teeth in Week 1 of the College Football Season, with all but West Virginia collecting wins by a wide margin, even Kansas, although only the Mountaineers played a ranked opponent and away from their home stadium in a 38-31 loss to Pitt in the first Backyard Brawl between the schools in 11 seasons.

Oklahoma State scored in bunches with QB Spencer Sanders putting up more than 400 yards and 4 TDs, but the Cowboys had to hold off Central Michigan in a 58-44 test that most didn't expect for the Big 12's best team of the regular season in 2021.
This week will see more formidable opposition for most of the conference, however, and if the Big 12 repeats its 9-1 opening week, it will certainly be something to boast about.
ESPN's College Gameday will be in Austin as Texas and Coach Steve Sarkisian play host to King Nick Saban and his top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, and with Vegas giving the Longhorns 20 points, even in Austin, most believe that first-year QB Quinn Ewers will have a long day against the vaunted Tide defense.
Ninth-ranked Baylor is getting points in its road game at Provo against what many expect to be the best game of the weekend against an experienced BYU Cougar team that gave the Bears fits a year ago in Waco, and Iowa State and Coach Matt Campbell look are staring at a road trip to Iowa City to face the Big Brother Hawkeyes that Campbell has yet to beat in his 5 years in Ames.
