*BIG SURPRISE: Big 12 Snubs Oklahoma, Texas in League Football Postseason Awards Selections*
The Big 12 snubbed Billy Bowman for Defensive Player of the Year, as well as Dillon Gabriel for Offensive Player of Year, and Brent Venables for Coach of the Year too...
Never mind that Gabriel led an offense that was the scoring and yard producer in the Big 12, or that Billy Bowman led the country in interceptions, or that Venables did in just his second season as a head coach what it took Steve Sarkisian 10 years to accomplish -- win 10 games.
Neither Bowman or Gabriel were chosen for either of the two Player of the Year awards -- though both were first-team selections, and despite his team being beat -- AT HOME -- by a 6-6 Group of 5 Alabama State team -- by 27 points, no less -- Mike Gundy was named the the Big 12's Coach of the Year for the 3rd time (the second time in three seasons), even though Sarkisian and Texas was 3 games better than a year ago and could find themselves in the College Football Playoff if they beat Gundy's Oklahoma State Cowboys (8-3, 7-2) on Saturday in At&T Stadium for the Big 12 Championship.
