*Ringing in the New Year With a Pair of College Football Playoff Classics*
If the College Football Playoff National Championship Game is anything like Saturday Night's CFP Semifinals, fans of the sport are in for a treat.
It was almost a shame someone had to lose Saturday.
Nevertheless, a week from Monday, defending National Champion Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart will take on an unfamiliar and unexpected opponent in the Big 12's TCU Horned Frogs, picked to finish 7th in most Big 12 preseason polls, who shocked College Football Blue Blood Michigan Saturday Night at the Rose Bowl in Inglewood, California.
It looked as though the Frogs' opponent would be a surprise as well when Ohio State took a two-score lead into the fourth quarter of their matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs, then had a field goal attempt to reclaim the lead with seconds left after Stetson Bennett orchestrated the second of two touchdown drives that gave the Dawgs the lead with just under a minute to play.
Noah Ruggles' 50-yard field goal attempt was shanked, however, preserving the defending champions' undefeated season and giving them a chance to repeat as National Champions with their Peach Bowl victory over the Buckeyes.
